Tragedy Tsunami

On December 26, 2004 the world paused, everyone stopped at a silence. There was an earthquake deep in the Indian Ocean causing the Asian tsunami. The Asian tsunami was proved to be appalling because how it affected the people, the damage and the statistics.
The Asian tsunami affected the people in a huge way. There were 225,000 deaths in eleven countries witch also left 2000 missing. Many people that survived lost their homes, schools, and most importantly, their loved ones. They would also loose their jobs and became dependant on their neighboring countries to help them rebuild the area.
The damage to the area was discouraging. There were boats pushed up to the shore and on top of houses. There were even docks taken inland. Buildings were shoved at least 100 feet or half eaten by the waves. Trees were both toppled over, pulled from its roots, or on top of cars and other structures. There were even fish brought up to the edge of the shore that have died on land. The damage must have been hard for most people and it had really defined the tragedy.
The Asian Tsunami was caused by the second largest earthquake ever recorded with a high magnitude of 9.4. The shaking lasted for about 8.3 to 10 minutes and in effect the whole world shook one centimeter. The shaking also started smaller earthquakes in Alaska. The epicenter was located off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. The earthquake was located 30 kilometers below the surface. The earthquake that struck at 6:58 a.m. and caused 30-meter tsunamis hit the countries of India, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka. The earthquake was terrifying and the statistics defiantly proved it.
The water has now receded and the process of recuperation has begun. The tsunami was defiantly bad because it was proved by the statistics, how it affected the people, and the damage. There are many survivors and many are dead, so we must keep them in mind and hope that Asia can rebuild their confidence.(msr4)
