Prepare for an earhquake~Earthquakes can cause a lot of damage to your home; it can also kill many people. If you do not know what do or how to prepare your house for an earthquake it could cost you. That is why it is important to know what to do in that situation. And what to do afterwards
To prepare your home for an earthquake, first make sure you and your family knows where the “safe spots” in your house are. Also know where the “danger spots” are in your house such as, windows, mirrors, hanging objects, and fireplaces. Practice DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON at least twice a year. Drop under a sturdy desk or table, hold on, and protect your eyes by pressing your face against your arm. If there's no table or desk nearby, sit on the floor against an interior wall away from windows, bookcases, or tall furniture that could fall on you. Teach children to Drop, Cover, and Hold On!
You should take a first aid class from a local Red Cross center, to keep current with your first aid and CPR skills if a situation would come up that required those skills. You and your family should practice a drill a plan for if a serious earthquake were to occur. If you have a babysitter you should inform them about your plan. Preparing a disaster supplies kit for your home and car can be very helpful. In these kits you should include, first aid and essential medications, canned food and can opener, at least three gallons of water, protective clothing, rainwear, bedding or sleeping bags, battery-powered radio, flashlight, and extra batteries will be very helpful in emergency situations. To eliminate hazards, bolt bookcases, china cabinets, and other tall furniture to wall studs’ to prevent them from falling during an earthquake. Also install strong latches on cupboards, and strap your water heater to wall studs. These are all helpful hints, and should be used during a serious earthquake. It could help save your life and others around you.------KB4-------
