There are so many ways that you and your family can protect yourselves during or before an earthquake. I strongly advise that you listen to and follow these instructions in case there is a time of need. Although these will greatly help you, they are still very many dangers involved in an earthquake.
Follow these directions to prepare your house before an earthquake occurs. The first thing you should do is practice Drop, Cover, and Hold On at least twice a year. Drop, Cover, and Hold On is a technique used to protect yourself during an earthquake. Another thing to do ahead of time is to tightly secure all tall standing objects to the wall using straps or bungee chords. You should also latch all your cabinets so that when or if an earthquake occurs it doesn’t all come crashing down. The last safety precaution to do before an earthquake is to find a safe place in every room of your house either under a table or desk.
A very important thing to remember is what to do during the earthquake to keep you safe. No matter what, you should always remember to stay inside your house because you don’t know what will happen outside. While inside your house it is best to stay on the top level clear away from windows and staircases, because these could easily come crashing down on top of you. In case you happen to be outside you should also stay away from trees, buildings, and any other tall objects. Earthquakes are dangerous and serious so all of these rules should be followed and obeyed. Another thing to remember is to stay in the fetal position for your safety. Lastly, stay inside until all shaking is complete so that you don’t get caught outside during an aftershock.
Just in case you are ever a victim in an earthquake you should follow these instructions to prepare yourself. There are also directions to inform you on what to do during an earthquake. You will be surprised at how much they will help. (LK5)
